The appliances at the Dereel Fire Brigade are housed in a 2 Bay station. We have 2 Isuzu 3.4D Tankers and a Trailer fitted with assorted specialised equipment. Our Tankers are primarily set-up to tackle Grass and Bush Fires, however they are also equipped with the appropriate gear which allows the firefighters to also tackle Structure Fires, Hazardous Chemical Incidents and many other types of calls. Tankers are generally used in bushfires as the water can be carried to where it is required and then used at the fire ground to extinguish the fire. The pump on a tanker runs independently, so that the truck can drive around and extinguish the fire. |

It replaced an old Austin truck which the brigade had used since its inception in 1979. At the time that we were looking at selling the Bedford a member of our took the truck to the Lake Goldsmith Steam Festival, where it became very useful for those attending that ran out of water. A farmer enquired about the vehicle as he saw the For Sale sign and went for a drive, he was very impressed that such a vehicle still had a working heater and also it was a 4wd. he signed the cheque there and then to purchase it.
